The Department of Homeland Security

Nuclear Explosion

The Department of Homeland Security was developed after the terrorist attacks of September 11. Twenty two federal agencies came together under this new department. The Federal Emergency Management Association was one of those agencies. FEMA had been charged with disaster preparedness and assistance for many years. They now work under the Department of Homeland Security to offer education and disaster assistance.

The Department of Homeland Security offers the following information for citizens to help them prepare for a variety of disasters, including terrorism. There are also links for post-disaster assistance.
