Helping Family Caregivers Complete the Cycle of Care
a website designed by Triangle J Area Agency on Aging specifically
for caregivers of older adults (and grandparents caring for grandchildren)
to support the Family Caregiver Support Program, a part of the Older
American's Act. Information includes: legal, financial, homecare,
long-term care, prescription drugs, assessing needs, Alzheimer's,
end-of-life care, services, long-distance caregiving, web resources,
disease information, safety, housing, respite, etc.

Administration
on Aging (AoA)
a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is the
federal agency charged with serving the nation's seniors through the objectives
and programs of the Older American's Act (helping to keep them independent
in their own homes). AoA provides leadership to state units on aging and Area
Agencies on Aging to help ensure coordinated and comprehensive service and
goals.
Alzheimer's
Resource Room
families, caregivers, and professionals are offered information about Alzheimer's
disease, caregiving, working with and providing services to persons with
Alzheimer's and help with locating support and assistance.

Eldercare
Locator Database
a nationwide directory assistance service designed to
assist older adults and their caregivers locate local support resources. The
site is administered by the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging
and the National Association of State Units on Aging.
FirstGov
an interagency initiative administered by the U.S. General Services Administration
providing an easy-to-search, free-access website designed to give you a centralized
place to find information from U.S. local, state and federal government agency
websites. It provides assistance to find and do business with government online,
on the phone, by mail, or in person.
FirstGov
for Seniors
created at the direction of the National Partnership for Reinventing Government.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) agreed to create, host and maintain
FirstGov for Seniors as a service especially geared toward senior citizens.
The site helps users access all government sites that provide services for
senior citizens. It gives older Americans the option of conducting their
government business electronically, along with the ability to transact business
with a wide range of government agencies and programs. Using a one-stop
shopping approach, seniors have access to agencies at the federal, state
and local levels. Seniors can search for programs that meet their needs,
without having to know which agency, at which level, can deliver the services
they seek.
GovBenefits
an online screening tool that is free, easy-to-use, and completely confidential.
Your name, phone number, Social Security number, or any other information
that could be used to identify you is not required. You answer a series of
questions about yourself, and then GovBenefits returns a list of government
benefits you may be eligible to receive along with information about how you
can apply.
BenefitsCheckUp
a free service developed by the National Council
on the Aging to assist older adults and their caregivers with identifying
federal and state assistance programs for which they may be eligible. Information
(excluding name, address, phone number, Social Security number, or other identifying
information) is entered into an online questionnaire. The service then explains
what benefits may be available for you and how to apply for them.
BenefitsCheckUpRx
a service similar to the one above that will provide a confidential, personalized
report of public and private programs that can help a person save money on
prescription drugs. Some basic information will need to be provided for the
service to work.

Association
a source of information, support, and assistance on issues related to Alzheimer's
disease.
Alzheimer's Disease Education and Referral Center
the National Institute on Aging's (part of the National Institute of Health)
information site on Alzheimer's Disease, its impact, and research.
Federal
Citizen Information Center
formerly the Consumer Information Center. The Center is a national clearinghouse
for consumer information based in Pueblo, Colorado and is part of the U.S.
General Services Administration. Information is available for free or at a
very low cost. It is a convenient source of federal consumer publications.
It assists federal agencies and departments to distribute useful information
to the public. The Center also includes information produced jointly by government
and private industry.

of Residents in Long-Term Care
a private, non-profit advocacy organization in North Carolina dedicated
to promoting the highest possible quality of life for adults who
cannot live independently, and for those who care for them.
Social
Security Administration
established
in 1935 to pay retired workers age 65 or older a continuing income after retirement.
Payment of social security benefits was to address the long-range problem
of economic security for older adults through a contributory system in which
workers themselves contributed to their own future retirement benefits by
making regular payments into a joint fund.
DisabilityInfo.gov
a federal website of disability-related government resources. The portal provides
access to disability-related information and programs available across the
government on numerous subjects, including civil rights, education, employment,
housing, health, income support, technology, transportation, and community
life.
Department
of Veterans Affairs
the federal agency responsible for providing benefits to veterans and their
dependents. It operates a nationwide program of health care, assistance services
and national cemeteries.
Disaster
Help
a government website designed to assist victims of disasters in locating
the resources they need. The goal of the site is to combine the resources
of all the federal agencies in one central location.
Ready.gov
a site offered by the Office of Homeland Security designed to help you
prepare for possible terrorist threats.

Carolina Government at Your Service
a portal to NC government services and information.

Carolina Long-Term Care
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services works to support
long-term care. They administer, regulate and fund an array of programs that
meet long-term care needs at home, the community, and in institutions. They
developed a website specifically for those needing long-term care services.
North
Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services
The Division "seeks to develop a unified social and health services system
that provides consumers with a full range of service options along with a
continuum of in-home, community based, and out-of-home care". The seventeen
Area Agencies on Aging help administer the programs and services.
